How to escape the perfectionism trap and quit people-pleasing for good

How to escape the perfectionism trap and quit people-pleasing for good

You could be sabotaging your own success because of this👇

One of the struggles I see among professionals is the constant chase for perfection while trying to please everyone. You may not realize it, but it might be the same for you.

You're always juggling expectations at work, and every setback feels personal, even if you know it’s out of your control. You may get the recognition you want (and you truly deserve it!)… But the constant pressure to be perfect and meet everyone's expectations? It seems like a trade-off that isn’t worth your well-being and happiness.

And in my experience, this eventually leads to burnout and frustration.

While it doesn’t take overnight to correct the way you’re wired to work, it’s not impossible to take back control.

It all starts with mastering your mindset and forming new habits around it.

In Atomic Habits, James Clear breaks down the fundamental stages of building and sustaining a habit (if you haven’t read his book, you should check it out!).

A few pages in, and the learnings have already been life-changing.

Here's one that completely transformed my approach to 'building new habits'.

He said, “Many people begin the process of changing their habits by focusing on what they want to achieve instead of who they wish to become.”

Imagine two chain smokers trying to quit. When offered a cigarette, the first person says, “No thanks. I’m trying to quit,” while the second person says, “No thanks. I’m not a smoker.” The difference in their responses speaks volumes.

The first one believes he’s a smoker trying to be something else. While the other person no longer identifies as someone who smokes.

It’s the same for high-achieving professionals who fail at breaking free from their negative thinking habits and making lasting changes.

Most are driven by having something instead of becoming someone.

And the former tends to be superficial and will eventually wear you out.

So if you want sustained change, it needs to happen on a deeper level and form a new habit.

And here’s the thing…

It’s easy to get trapped in a negative thought loop. So building powerful habits for a positive mind requires commitment and support.

And that’s exactly what our Positive Intelligence Challenge is all about.
