How to Build a Strong Mind For Great Leadership

How to Build a Strong Mind For Great Leadership

A quick Google search on the top qualities of a great leader will get you about 68 billion search results!

Meaning, you can find billions of ways to answer the question, “What makes a great leader?”

But today, I want you to focus on only one.

The one that I know is the very foundation of all the best qualities of a great leader... and the one that draws the line between good and great leadership—a strong mind.

Think of your mindset as a pair of glasses for your brain…

And just as different lenses can change how you see things, your mindset dictates how you approach things and why you do what you do.

Take this as an example (and tell me which are you):

strong mind sees challenges as growth opportunities, learns from setbacks, and embraces change with optimism.

On the flip side, a weak mind tends to view challenges as permanent roadblocks, gets discouraged by setbacks, and resists change out of fear or uncertainty.

The hard truth?

We’re more often the latter than we’re happy to admit.
(Yes, even as high-achievers.)

Just like how a leadership promotion can feel like a ticking time bomb as you wait for someone to realize you’re not as capable as they think, holding yourself back from embracing your new role.

Or when making a big decision as a leader and you get a little too comfortable weighing all the what-ifs and maybes, overthinking every move, and doubting your judgment.

Or when a great career opportunity finally presents itself and all you think about is all the ways it could go wrong. So you stick to what feels safe, thinking another one will come around and by then you’ll be ready.

As a self-leadership and career coach who's seen, heard, and even experienced these firsthand…

Believe me, you’re not alone. And today, I want to let you in on a secret.

  • The secret to nurturing a positive mind so you can build on your confidence, manage stress better, and truly feel happy in your life and career... (improved well-being)
  • The secret to a proactive mindset so, as a leader, you stay focused on finding solutions and strategies for innovation instead of dwelling on the problem... (peak performance)
  • The secret to sustaining healthy habits that leads to improved empathy, better conflict management, and deeper connections... (strong, positive relationships)

In other words, the secret to a strong mind...

It’s called Mindset Mastery.

And it’s when you’re able to face challenges with a positive attitude and less stress.

But how do you master your mindset?

I’ll tell you. The answer is to activate your inner sage.

You see, we ALL have the tendency to self-sabotage. But it’s also part of our nature to self-nurture.

Research shows that our brains have "negative" and "positive" mental muscles. They’re called saboteurs and sage.

Saboteurs react to challenges with stress, disappointment, self-doubt, regret, anger, shame, guilt, or worry.

Sage handles challenges with empathy, gratitude, curiosity, creativity, self-confidence, and calm, clear-headed, laser-focused action.

And to activate sage, you need to tone down or silence your saboteurs.

To do that, first you need to know what your saboteurs are—the voices in your head that generate stress and negative emotions.

And then, train your “mental muscles” to think productively.

When you’ve built these muscles, you’re able to shift the power balance from your inner saboteurs (negative self) to your inner sage (positive self).

And when you’re in that mental state, it leads to peak performance and well-being.

Unfortunately, only 20% of professionals are able to do so.

That is why, in my upcoming webinar, Mindset Mastery, I’m breaking down the whats and hows of activating your inner sage.
