Throughout my professional life, I have struggled with impostor syndrome. As a Moroccan woman working in the French tech industry, I have often felt like the "different one" and have had to work harder to prove my worth. This pressure to constantly improve and succeed took a toll on my self-esteem, especially as I transitioned from working in startups to the corporate world, and later as a French woman executive in the Asia Pacific region.
I first realized that I had impostor syndrome when I constantly found myself doubting my abilities, even when I received positive feedback from my colleagues and superiors. It was as if I was waiting for someone to uncover the truth and reveal that I was a fraud. This feeling only intensified as I made the transition from being a marketer to becoming a coach.
It wasn't until I began working with a coach and engaging in self-introspection that I was able to start overcoming my impostor syndrome. My coach helped me identify the negative thought patterns that were holding me back and taught me how to reframe them. Through self-reflection, I gained a deeper understanding of my values, strengths, and weaknesses, which gave me a stronger sense of self-awareness and confidence.
In addition to coaching, I also found it helpful to build a support system of friends, family, and colleagues who believed in me and encouraged me to embrace my accomplishments. By incorporating self-care practices like meditation and exercise into my routine, I was able to reduce stress and improve my mental health.
